Individual TT Opens Cycle Race Season

The first individual time trial of the new cycling season took place on Saturday 5th in the afternoon, alas it was to be a boys only affair as the women were conspicuous in their absence this time around. Notwithstanding this setback, the day was attacked with vigor by all those present, starting with the evergreen Gordon ‘Doc’ Avery, the rest of the athletes setting off onto the 10km course at one minute intervals.

Perennial favorite for the win Reggie Douglas would have his work cut out for him on this occasion with James Weekes in good shape and young Assim Chapman looking lean and hungry for the win, Reggie was not exactly helped by the fact he had just finished a 3 ½ hour mountain bike tour immediately before his start time.

The race was fast and furious from the off, Elite males, junior elite, cadets and masters all mixing it up and trying hard to do their very best times, as each athlete finished the course new times were being set, and it came down to the wire as the top guys, who set off last in the order, came in to the finish line, with Reggie douglas once again proving too strong for the competition, completing the 10kms in a time of 15mins:18seconds, followed by Assim and then James.

Special mentions to visiting rider Graham Arnel from England and first time junior racer Ishawn Jeffers, who took third place in the junior category. Thanks to Collette for the timing and course marshals Penny and Hudson, the next event on the calendar is the last of the St Kitts mini tri series on 11th December
