St Kitts Mini Tri Series Race 2, By Sasha Lloyd

St.Kitts triathlon club was hosting their 2nd race for their mini tri series. The Nevis Cycle and Triathlon club decided having missed the first race, that we wouldn’t miss this one.  There were many youths representing Nevis at this race. Congratulations to the females Adjua and Andrea who completed the whole course, partaking in all three activities. Also congratulations to the males, Trifon and Shaun who also completed the whole course as well. Shaun holds position as first youth male. There were also youths part-taking as teams. Dominique, Jessica, Lucian and Amber did a great job in this.  I would also like to congratulate Sandie although she did not finish the race due to an accident, this was her first triathlon and I must commend her for trying. The adults also did their part, congrats to Reggie for his first, Alex for his second, Matt, Greg, Winston and James even though he didn’t finish due to injury.

I held position as first youth female and third overall female. This has been a great experience for I haven’t done a triathlon in a good while. I was not prepared for this race. It was only last minute that I decided to part-take. I went into the race with a minor food poisoning and I am truly grateful that I was able to complete it. The water was calm and it was a nice day for a swim. The race started off and all the athletes dashed into the water. I thought my swim was fine even though my sighting was way off. I made the mistake and selected a moving mark to sight off of. This did not worry me, I swim back to the buoy and continued on. I switched from my swimming mode to biking mode in transition. The bike was fantastic. I gained a lot of time during the bike. This was the best part of the triathlon. The last and final part was the run. Running was never my favourite in triathlons but it was not that bad. I found that I did well even though my belly was aching. The aching slowed down my pace but this did not stop me. I continued till I reached the finish line.

I enjoyed my day and I hope the next race will be even better. I would like to thank my father, Matt, Reggie, Winston and James for this opportunity and help training me.
