NEVIS CYCLE & TRIATHLON CLUB

A beautiful but windy Saturday morning greeted the athletes as they gathered for the first of the Mini Triathlons organised by the SKN Triathlon Federation as part of the build up for the 8^th Annual Nevis Triathlon happening on March 21^st this year.

 Four budding female triathletes made the journey from St Kitts to join in as preparations were made in the grounds of the Oualie Beach Hotel, the course for this event consisted of a 250 mtr Swim, 10km Bike and 3km Run, similar to the Try-A-Tri distance that will be available in March on the big day.

 The 16 athletes, 9 male 7 female set off on the swim, first out of the water was Matt Lloyd in a time of 6:04 minutes, closely followed by Alex Isles and Erin McNally (SK) the fastest female, into transition they went as the rest of the pack climbed out of the water, once out on the bike it was a different story as the more experienced cyclists found their legs.

 Fastest bike time of the day was posted by a hard charging Greg Phillip with a time of 17:10 minutes, catching and passing all the better swimmers, all but Alex Isles who was the first athlete back for the second transition, and first out on to the run course. The story for the females was unfolding as well with Laura Talaga (SK) putting in a fine bike leg of 19:50 to overhaul the faster female swimmers and put her in the lead gong into transition 2.

 Alex stayed in cruise control during the run to take 1^st place with the fastest run of the day of 15:36 and a total finishing time of 42:39, easily holding off Winston Crooke who had passed Greg on the run to take 2^nd, with Greg in 3^rd, for the women it was Laura who held on with a fine run to take 1^st place, in 2^nd was Kristilee Stewart (SK) and in 3^rd was female master Leslie Armentrout (NEV).

 Congratulations to all the participants, they put on a great show, with special mentions to our first time triathletes Stacey and Kristilee, very well done! Our Masters Gordon, Dave and Leslie for being such troopers, the St kitts athletes Jen, Laura, Kristilee, Erin and our volunteer time keepers for keeping us honest.

The next race in the mini-tri series will be held on February 20^th
