Individual Time Trial May 23rd 2009

The race season continues apace for the members of the Nevis Cycle & Triathlon Club, this weekend had a test of speed and concentration as old hands vied against the new kids on the block, the course was set as 4 laps between Oualie Beach Hotel and the airport, requiring the athletes to climb Hurricane Hill a total of 8 times.

The combination of Hurricane Hill and the wind blowing quite strongly proved to be a real test for the riders strength and stamina, racing against the clock, the athletes were started at 1 minute intervals, so they were able to monitor any progress or loss of time against each other.

James Weekes, Kristina Stoney and Alexis Lemmex were using this race as a speed test for their upcoming triathlon tournaments abroad, so they were fighting hard, James has been a dominant force in Time Trialing over the years so was a clear favorite to win, however in racing, anything can happen.

A number of new riders were cutting their teeth with this race, but it was a good test of their mettle, and gave them a benchmark for future TT’s.

The final results saw James take another first in the male category by more than 2 minutes, completing the 20km course in 34:44, Kristina took the womens by an even greater margin with a time of 38:36, for the junior riders it was a fine performance by Royston Queeley finishing top in a time of 42:53.
