Bank Holiday Blitz by Federations Athletes

This holiday weekend proved a busy one for the athletes and friends of the Federation; here on Nevis some of our runners were taking on the Church Ground Run, Miranda Fellows defending her title as the reinging queen of this event, Andy Brear, Frank Ashley, Alexis Lemmex Sarah Williams, Paula Price were also representing.

Kristina Stoney took on the challenge of the St Croix half-ironman (70.3) taking a very credible 4th in her category in a time of 5:59:12, and an amazing 4th best time on the bike leg despite getting a flat and having to make the repairs herself. OECS champion Reggie Douglas and James Weekes were attending the Grenada International Triathlon, after a very hard fight with the better swimmers and overcoming mechanical problems, Reggie took 1st place in the Olympic distance and James stomped the competition with a blistering 1:15:07, taking 1st in the Sprint distance, a really good day for Nevis (for full results see:- http://www.grenadatriathlon.com/Portals/11/Results/2009/2009_SprintOlympic_Results.htm)

Further afield St Kitts & Nevis first female pro cyclist Kathryn Bertine spent five days racing in the Tour of Gila with the womens pro team Specialized D4W/Bicycle Haus, alongside the likes of Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer as they prepare for the Tour of Italy, Kathryn’s team took a very credible 5th place overall, and Kathryn’s best result was 25th place in the individual time trial. Over in Europe Janine Herweijer, the reigning Nevis triathlon champion was busy taking the top spot in a 42km time trial, where she posted a fantastic 1:05:30, and Janine was racing in her SKN Time Trial skinsuit, thanks and congratulations Janine.

We continue to celebrate the development of our young cyclists, with a series of weekend races that will lead to the first ever Junior National Cycling Championships to be held over the weekend of June 20/21 in the disciplines of Ind.
