NEVIS CYCLE & TRIATHLON CLUB

On this cool, windy morning of March 15, 2009 Winston Crooke awakens to a surprise, his passion and dream, a sport he organized in 1997 the Nevis triathlon had lost their sponsor this year. At the last moment Carino Health Spa had pulled out. With a big smile on his face and his head up high he pushed forward. How could he let down the many U.S. and European athletes who had just gotten through one of their worst winters, the opportunity to have Nevis sunshine and island hospitality? This small Caribbean island host an event known worldwide in the triathlon circle, this year over 250 entrants are expected to swim, cycle and run their best, some only to trickle seconds or minutes from the previous year time, others to be number one .On completion of the swim, contestants run along gallows bay for about 60 meters to their bikes. The bike course goes from being flat to a elevation of 50 meters on a hill just past the Four Seasons. The highest point occurs just past the Oualie Beach Hotel going toward to the turnaround point at the airport. Then Onward to Charlestown to Hunkins drive to the finish line. At the end of the day these contestants had achieved something that had not occurred to me, a journey from couch potato to triathlete! Are you thinking you'd like to get started in the sport of Triathlon? ..., Finishing strong is what endurance races are all about. I am forever changed for the better. Next year here I come, especially after my wife just told me my couch is my best friend!
