Athletes Begin Preparation for The 2009 Carino Health Spa Nevis Triathlon.
Oualie Beach, Nevis, January 24, 2009 – The Nevis Cycle & Triathlon Club on Saturday hosted its first Mini Triathlon of the local race season. The race, while short, with just a 350 meters swim, a 10 kilometer bike and a 2 kilometer run, was a good start towards the preparation for the Carino Health Spa Nevis Triathlon to be held on March 15, 2009.
Twenty-six athletes participated in the race, a lot of the regular gang were in evidence, but some were newcomers both to the sport and to Nevis, we also had two hotlel guests who had heard of the event and joined in.
At the end of the race, Reggie Douglas had won in the male category with a time of 33:40 followed by Tom Dutton and visitor John Fishwich of the UK. The female race had a recently returned Kristina Stoney taking 1st place, completing the course in a time of 38:24. Alexis Lemmex and Sarah Williams finished second and third respectively.
The triathlon season continues on February 21st with a race slated for Frigate Bay in St. Kitts. This will be the first time in 4 years that a triathlon event has been held on St Kitts and it is hoped that it will herald a reemergence of the sport there. The local season will end on April 11, 2009 with the National Championships in Sprint & Olympic distance Triathlon.
