Church Ground Run

After competing in the Grenada sprint Traithlon the team members headed back to Nevis early to make sure they were back to contest the 5th annual Church Ground Run, with one days rest they turned up to join other team members and the rest of the 51 strong field. After registering in their respective age groups the race was started, with of course, the seasoned veterans and the overkeen novices setting off with a blistering pace. The novices began to suffer early on, and got passed easily by the wiser steadier runners who had paced themselves, but the experts balanced their pacing nicely to complete the 11.3km course at almost the same pace they started, St Kitts runner Otis Stevens taking the front spot and maintaining his position to the end to finish in 39:26. Reggie Douglas the clubs top placed runner finished in 4th place overall and 1st in his age group with a time of 43:33, very commendable after racing an Olympic Triathlon two days earlier. Jack Scorpion placed a game 14th overall and 2nd behind Reggie in the 20-29 age group, Jaime Moreno took a hard fought 4th in his 30-39 age and a credible 9th overall with a time of 50:31, followed byVaden Jones in 5th and 19th overall. In the hotly contested 40-49 age group Winston Crooke was 6th followed by Matt Lloyd in 7th. Khalid Hakim had a great day placing 1st in the 50+ category in 58:24 and 18th overall, not bad for someone new to the competitive scene.
Top female finisher and club member was Miranda Grandison with a fabulous time of 47:57 which placed her 7th overall on the day. In the 30-39 female age group 2nd place was taken by Danielle Moreno, and 3rd by Sarah Petre-Mears, Paula Price took second to Mirandas mother Idris Fellows in the female 50+ age group.
All in , a great day for the members of the Nevis Cycle & Triathlon Club, with James, Keith and Stanley sidelined by injuries and illness, it was still a good showing amongst the field of dedicated runners assembled on the day, and we all look forward to improving on our times next year.
