Childrens Triathlon training begins

What fun! What enthusiasm!! The first ever Children’s Triathlon training program began on Saturday, January 4th and was a teeming success, based at the Oualie Beach Hotel, the children were kept within the confines of the grounds to ensure safety and full supervision.
In all 15 children between the ages of 6 and 12 gathered to participate in and learn what triathlon is about. There was a mock triathlon course set up by experienced trainers Winston Crooke, visiting overseas sport coach Maike, and James Weekes. After a detailed educational briefing with a focus on safety, the children walked through the course with the trainers to get familiar, feel at ease and to have an opportunity for questions. After the trainers were certain the children felt comfortable the trainers supported them through a trial triathlon with most of the children completing all three disciplines, and the rest at least two of the three aspects.
Emphasis was on fun rather than competition, trainers provided support and assistance to those in the water during their swim; trainers were in the transition area to help the process between the swim and the bike, and then the bike and to the run. Parents and spectators gathered to applaud and cheer the children towards their personal victories. As in triathlon everyone is victorious!!
Do not know what triathlon is all about, but curious….it is not too late to be apart of the action! Come find out for yourself what all the buzz is about. Triathlon is the sport in today’s world that is increasing in popularity and participation! Why? Because it is fun and there is something for everyone. Come and practice your swim/bike/run under the guidance and instruction of talented and educated facilitators.
The training sessions are for children between the ages of 6 and 16. We meet each Saturday at 10am until 12pm. there are provided snacks and water, which is covered by a $20 registration fee. The plan is for the children to participate in the Nevis Triathlon in March, where they will have their own min-tri event on a closed course, to that end all the children involved receive a $50 sponsorship card which will cover the costs of t-shirts, event set-up, and awards. For more information on the program contact Kristina Stoney, Maike or Tracy Rigby.
