Latest news of the exploits of Shannon Fitzgerald are as follows, in two recent events held in the USA where she rides for her college team, Shannon dominated in both races.
2 weeks ago she rode in a 106 mile bike race which took her 5 hours and 5 minutes, at an average of about 21 mph, (but this was a really flat course) In a field of 350 riders Shannon placed first for the women and 16th overall
Race 2 was this past sunday, where she took part in a 100 mile race that is considered to be the hardest and hilliest race around, It is called 6 gap because it had 6 really hard climbs that were really long (each one was 3-7 miles long and up to a 15 % steep grade). This one took her 5 hours and 41 minutes (phew!) and Shannon once again the first in the female category, she was challenged by another female rider untill around mile 75 when they started the 7 mile climb and Shannon decided it was time to drop her for good. This event had a total of 1200 riders, with Shannon taking top female honours again and placing 61st overall.
An amazing result as anyone who races will agree, as she has only been racing for about four years, we look forward to hearing more of her exploits, for now Shannon will take a well earned rest as she prepares for her exams, we wish her only the best.
