Nevis Cycle & Triathlon Club

On september 4th Reggie Douglas of Nevis travelled to St.John to participate in the Love City Triathlon, it was held on a beautiful sunday morning, he was joined by sixty three other competitors on the beach that day, Puerto Rico, Tortola, US Virgin Islands, St.Martin, and US states Utah, Minnesota and Pennsylvania. Reggies game plan was simple, just to go as hard as possible and get even with St.Martin (they had beaten him on Nevis) it was a flat, flat swim and despite getting the usual kicks and slaps he managed to get out of the pack and in the middle of one group of seven, coming out of the water confident he had a good swim. However, it was on the bike that he really made an impression, passing the better swimmers one by one, relishing the climbs and being daring on the descents, untill he had the third then second placed athletes in sight. Reggie knew he had to really push now because his Nevis nemesis Michael Bacon (SXM) was charging up behind him, with Dick Lutteckes (SXM) way out in front after a fabulous swim leg, he knew he was in a fight for second place, coming. in off the bike on to the run Michael met him in transition, this was going to be tough. They left together setting a fast pace, so it was all about second place now and Reggie was determined to fight for it, in fact it came down to the last 100mts when Reggie took Michael with a strong sprint finish, cementing his second place. He celebrated Olympic style with the Nevis flag wrapped around him, a well deserved placing for this up and coming triathlete.
