Nevis Cycle & Triathlon Club

The Nevis Cycle & Triathlon club have been the inspiration for two new events on the 2005 calendar, the first will be a 60mile road bike race for the Independance day celebrations, this is at the request of new sponsor Cable & Wireless, and it is hoped to become an annual event. The second is a Triathlon for the Lord Nelson anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar celebrations, to be held in Nevis on the 15th October at the Oualie Beach Hotel, trophies will be sponsored by the Nelson committee.
News from further afield involves St Kitts former top female triathlete and bike racer, Shannon Fitzgerald, after departing our shores to continue her studies in the US, Shannon joined the campus cycling club, where she most recently won her first road race, so congrats to Shannon.
And here we have those details in Shannons own words:-
(the race was a road race in Rome Georgia. It was 28 miles long with the last 2 miles up a steep incline. With 2 miles to go there was still a pack of 5 women, they attacked the bottom of the hill but by about half a mile some were begining to fade. I figured that was the time to attack, so i stood up and went hard. Taking advantage that there were some curves I pushed as hard as I could till I could no longer see anyone in my field. by then I felt like I was close to vomiting and was hoping the top of the mountain was close. luckily as I went around the next curve I could see the finish line at the top. In the end I beat the 2nd place girl by 2 minutes)
