6th Annual John T Memorial Road Race Anguilla
The John T Memorial is now one of the bigest races in the Caribbean right now, the spotlight shining on Anguilla their great team of organisers and enthusiastic supporters. On July 3rd Team Nevis were once again on show to do battle with morer than 80 riders from the other islands Antigua, St Vincent, Tortola, Dutch and French St martin.
Well, all that can be said is it was not a good race for Team Nevis participants, Keith Jones, Reggie Douglas and Everet Claxton, the race had its customary ferocious start, with the faster guys determined to drop as many riders as early as possible. First casualty was Everet, thankfully not to the pace, but a flat tire and a traffic snarl up keeping the team car away, allowed the pack to put an insurmountable gap between him and them. Next casualty was Reggie who got invloved in a pile, but he managed to get back up to the leaders, unfortunately just in time to meet another crash, he pulled back again with three other riders but this had sapped a lot of his energy. Once he was back with the pack he was pleased to see that Keith was hanging with the top guys, however the crashes took their toll and reggie was dropped as the pace increased again, with Keith dropping back to assist his team mate. Keith tried to pull reggie back to the pack but they could not make the conection and had to watch as the pack moved away killing all chances of top 20 placings. Despite their misfortunes all three guys of Team Nevis finished, as out of the eighty odd riders twenty did not, .Well done Reggie, well done keith, well done Everet.
