Reggie triumphs in the home stretch
Saturday March 6th the riders of St Kitts and Nevis were joined by visiting triathletes Tom dutton and Eric Leire for the last tune up race before the Olympic Triathlon next week. 14 riders lined up for the start of this 40/20km course, with Reggie looking ready to stamp his authority and send a signal to both Tom and Eric and especially Royston, who had beaten him the last two outings. The pace was set from the gun with the usual guys at the front Shannon, Reggie, James, Tom, and Royston blazing away and leaving the rest to sort themselves out. In the 20km division the battle was between Ninian (SK) and returning competitor Miranda (Nev) with Ninian maintaining his steady pace to take first place in 37.25mins, followed by Miranda and then Greg Phillip in third. Whist the 20km riders were finishing Reggie was sticking it to the the rest and making his charge as they went up Huricane hill, finding that no-one could keep with him here he went for it big time, and split the group to leave James and Tom to work furiously to pull him back. Despite some very good team work Reggie kept his lead to give him a convincing win in a time of 63.48mins, and set the tone for the coming weekend, James held off Tom in the sprint to take second and Tom Third. Well that was it, the last chance to get everything dialled in and check fitness levels before the big event, and it was a welcome return to the fray for Wendy yaphe of St Kitts and Eric Leire of France who came down early to prepare for the Triathlon.
