Reggie shines in St.Martin
Last weekend bright and early on Sunday morning 6th February, Reggie joined 33 other crazy mountain bikers, both male and female to circumnavigate the island of St Martin on their trusty steeds(bikes). The course was 56km of roads, trails and murderous hills, at least by setting off at 6.00am they could avoid the heat of the sun. Race favourite Jesse Vosa let everyone know from the start that he was the man to deal with, setting a furious pace from the gun untill he dropped even the few who manage to stay with him for a short time, including Reggie. The main chasers were the usual suspects, Fritz Bus, Dick Luttekes, Mark Maidwell and Gary Howkins, plus a tourist who had joined in as part of his vacation(?) and of course Nevis best, Reggie who was hanging tough and fighting for all he was worth. It was only in the latter stages of the race on the steepest of climbs that Reggie came off the pace and admitted he had to walk one of the climbs, saying it was faster than using his granny gear. It was only this that kept him off the podium with Fritz the last one to get away from him and taking third place to Reggies very, very commendable fourth place in 3hrs 14mins, by far his best result amongst that level of competition. in fact so tough are these guys that Fritz got off his bike and headed straight to the boatyard to captain his crew for the Heineken regatta warm ups, which they won, is he tough or what?. So Reggie can be very happy with his performance and this puts him in fine shape for the coming Triathlon, where he is hoping all his prearation and training will pay off, then he can show the international group of visiting triathletes what he can do, we wish him all the best and congratulate him on a fine effort in St Martin.
