Nevis Cycle & Triathlon Club

Everet Claxton of the Nevis cycle club enjoyed his first race of the year in Anguilla where he is now working. This is an annual event that is sponsored by Blanchard’s Restaurant; the race took place on Sunday 13th Feb. The riders, 21 in total, were required to complete 17 laps around the pond at Sandy Ground for a total of 32.3miles @ 1.9miles per lap. Since this was his first race here in almost a year, Everet was unsure how he would stack up against the other riders, and actually struggled for the first two laps (didn’t warm up properly.) By lap 3 or 4 he was trying to be a part of a 4 man break but moved too late & too slow and missed them, he then had to chase and just when he thought he’d caught them they saw him and picked up the pace. Leaving him to wait for the main group so he could get some rest.
By lap 14 the main bunch was down to 10. At the finish there were 7 of them left to battle for 4th. And they had lapped about 5 riders with 6 riders not finishing. Everet crossed the line in 7th place.
