UCI/COPACI convention in Cuba
St Kitts and Nevisnewly formed cycling federation attended this convention on 15th January 2005 to lobby for the re-instatement of St Kitts and Nevis to the UCI. Cycling in the federation has been suffering under a 13 year ban for none payment of dues, new president Winston Crooke put forward the argument that since it was the resposibility of the previous organisation they should waive the fees, recognise the new body and allow cycling to recover and develop with all the benefit that an Olympic discipline deserves. The vote was a positive one and fees were paid for 2005, and the next step is to apply for riders individual liscences and seek recognition and assistance from the Olympic commitee in St Kitts. The new year has begun with the first of the 20 events scheduled for 2005 and the new federation of cyclists are celebrating their new lease on life and look ahead to representing their nation regionally and further afield.
